The Women’s Indian T20 League inaugural edition will get underway in a month’s time and the technical bidding to land a team in the league concluded on January 23, Monday. The Indian cricket board is giving it all to make it the best experience for the fans and a season that would act as a morale booster for women’s cricket.
On Tuesday, reports emerged claiming the Indian cricket board would reportedly earn INR 4000 crore from Women’s Indian T20 League bidding. For the unversed, the financial bidding to bag a team in the inaugural tournament will take place on Wednesday and the fans await the final results to get to know of the franchises and the owners.
On Monday, several reports emerged claiming that the Men’s Indian T20 League franchise Mumbai’s owners Aakash Ambani and Nita Ambani are more likely and front-runners to bag a team. Further, the reports revealed that the Chennai franchise are less likely to bid for the team, although the city will be a part of the Women’s Indian T20 League with new owners on the cards.
Could the Women’s Indian T20 League be a game-changer for Indian women’s cricket?
With India finding stars like Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Shafali Verma in the past 10 years, the inauguration of the Women’s edition could come as a blessing for the aspiring women’s stars in the coming decade, making the Indian team an unshakable power in the sport. Adani Groups, who failed to land a team in the Indian T20 League last year, are more likely to get a team in the Women’s Indian T20 League as per the reports.
It remains to be seen if all of the franchises from the men’s edition barring Chennai would bag a team in the women’s edition, given that the competition to bag a team is quite challenging. The likes of Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami are reportedly set to come out of retirement to take part in the highly-competitive five-team tournament, as per the reports.
