Yuzvendra Chahal is known to be a fun and cool personality both on and off the field. Chahal losing his cool on the field even in the most intense situation is a rare sight. However, the match against Lucknow on Sunday, 10th April was a different occasion, Fans witnessed an agitated side of Chahal over a controversial decision from the umpire.
The 20th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 between Rajasthan and Lucknow went down the wire. Sanju Samson called upon his prime wicket-taking option in Yuzvendra Chahal with the match hanging in the balance. It was the 18th over of the Lucknow innings and the batting side still required 49 runs off 18 deliveries to win the match. With Stoninis at the crease, it was a given that the batter will look to attack Chahal. He was smashed for a six in the very first ball, but the leg-spinner did not lose his cool and kept tossing the ball up as he got a dot and conceded a single of the next two balls. In the 4th ball of the over he bowled a loopy leg-spinner, which turned a lot. The umpire called it a wide and this did not go down well with the bowler. Chahal was seen arguing with the umpire over the decision.
Under the new rules, it is where the ball passes the batter that has to be taken into consideration while calling a wide and not where the keeper collects it. The replays confirmed Chahals’s delivery was a legal one and his discontent was justified. However, in the very next delivery, he got Dusmantha Chameera trapped for an LBW, which the umpire turned down. The bowler was quick to take a DRS and snapped up the wicket. Chahal finished his spell of 4 overs with 4 wickets conceding 41 runs. On the back of Chahal’s brilliant bowling exploits, Rajasthan won the match by 3 runs.
