‘I would also not like to get out like that’ – R Ashwin’s unique take on non-striker run-out

‘It is a form of a dismissal and it is legal,’ Ashwin added.

R Ashwin opens up on non-striker's run-out

Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian veteran spinner, has always been supportive of a non-striker run-out and the 36-year-old hit the headlines yet again after opening up on the same. The topic rocked the cricketing world yet again, soon after Deepti Sharma’s antics in the third ODI against England in September, which saw India Women winning the game.

Ashwin, who lauded Deepti for her run-out earlier, said that the mode of dismissal was legal and also admitted to people having contradictory opinions on the same. Further, Ashwin claimed that it was fair from a team’s point of view to either do it or not do it.

“Honestly, I would also not like to get out like that. Just because I don’t like doesn’t mean I cannot get out like that. Nobody likes getting out, I do not like being knicked off, bowled, LBW, run-out. Likewise, I would also not like to get run-out at the non-striker’s end,” Ashwin was quoted as saying.

“It is a form of a dismissal and it is legal. There are many arguments regarding that. Like with anything else in this world, people are going to have contradictory thoughts. Whether you want to do it or not, it is absolutely fine,” he added.

We have not reached here easily: Ashwin

Commenting on India’s campaign in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022, Ashwin said that it has been a tough journey and hoped to carry on with the momentum. Further, the 36-year-old said that the shortest format of the game is decided by barest margins and added that the experts themselves are still learning about the game.

“We have not reached here easily (laughs). We have had quite tricky games against Bangladesh and Pakistan. These games went down to the wire. I think even people watching the game, giving their expert opinion on the game are still learning because the game is decided by such small margins,” said the Men in Blue’s renowned spinner.

As things stand, India would hope to defeat Zimbabwe and make it to the semi-finals, while Pakistan, on the other hand, would be depending on Zimbabwe to clear their road to the knockouts.
