The Indian T20 League is the biggest source of cricketing entertainment at present. The fans wait for each season of the tournament every year. All the biggest brands look to get their name associated with the cash-rich league. The broadcast and digitals rights of the tournament for the period between 2023 and 2027 are up for grabs.
Notably, Disney-owned Star India is the current holder of the broadcasting rights of the league. They paid a sum of INR 16,000 Cr to own the rights for the five-year season ending this season. Disney+ HotStar is currently holding the digital rights of the tournament.
The announcement that tender documents are available for the interested bidders was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through a Tweet from their official page yesterday on the 29th of March, 2022. The Tweet made by Jay Shah; the secretary of BCCI read – “I’m pleased to announce that @BCCI has issued the tender document for Indian T20 League media rights for seasons 2023-27. With 2 new teams, more matches, more engagement, more venues, we are looking to take Indian T20 League to newer and greater heights.†For the first time in the history of the tournament an e-auction will be held to determine the winners of the media rights for the next cycle.

The Indian T20 League has gone bigger from this season. From an 8-team tournament, it has shifted to a 10-teams format. The number of games will also increase from 60 to 74. So, things are expected to get even bigger and better from here onwards.
Reports are that along with Star other broadcasters like Zee, Sony, and Reliance Viacom 18 will also be competing for the rights. While Amazon Prime, Meta and YouTube and Disney+ Hotstar will bid for digital rights.
Interested bidders will be able to obtain the tender document by paying a fee of INR 25 Lakhs. The Initial Tender Document is available for purchase till May 10, 2022.
