KL Rahul’s 36 off 39 against Hong Kong managed to raise a lot of eyebrows. The batter failed to bring out an impactful innings as he used to in the past. Thus, questions about his inclusion in the team are being raised in high numbers.
The second match’s hero Suryakumar Yadav however squashed all doubts and questions about Rahul’s inclusion and asked to give him some time.
When the reporter asked if Suryakumar could be seen opening the innings as part of India’s newly aggressive approach, the batter jokingly replies, “Aap bol rahe ho ke KL bhai ko nahi khilana chahiye? (So you mean to say that KL Rahul should not be included in the playing XI?).”
Suryakumar, on a rather serious note however said, “He (Rahul) is coming back from an injury, he also needs some time. We have some time right now.”

Earlier KL Rahul sustained a groin injury towards the end of the Indian T20 League 2022 which kept him out of the Indian side for several months. Now, when back, he has failed to rediscover his touch. His return has also clashed with India’s change in approach which asks every player to play at a high intensity. In the two Asia Cup matches, KL Rahul has failed to impress and questions about his inclusion are understandable.
I am very flexible to bat at any number- Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav continued with the answer of batting at any position by saying, “As far as I am concerned, I have always said that I have always said that I am very flexible to bat at any number. I have told the coach and captain that make me bat at any number, but just play me. Things will go on. There are a lot of things we are also trying. Instead of doing it at practice, it is better to try those things during a match. We will get a better idea, so we will see how it goes.”
India has qualified for the next stage of Asia Cup 2022 by winning both of its matches in the league stage.
