The friendship between star Indian batter Virat Kohli and former South African Captain AB De Villiers is widely known in the cricketing fraternity. The pair have shared many memorable moments on the cricket field while playing for the Bangalore Franchise in the Indian T20 League. Kohli and De Villiers are great admirers of each other and are often seen complementing each other’s game.

Recently AB De Villiers was once again seen congratulating Kohli as he is approaching another milestone in his cricketing career. The former Indian captain will be playing his 100th T20 international as he takes the field in India’s first match in the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan. Kohli will become the second Indian player to reach the landmark after Rohit Sharma. He will also become the first Indian and overall second player to play 100 matches in all three formats of the game. The only other player to achieve the same feat is Ross Taylor from New Zealand.

In a video uploaded by Star Sports’ official handle, De Villiers said, “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate my very good friend Virat Kohli on becoming the first Indian cricket player to play 100 matches across all three formats. What an amazing achievement Virat! We are all very proud of you and all the very best in your 100th T20 International game. Will be watching you.”

Kohli has been going through a dismal form of late as he hasn’t scored an international century for over 1000 days. In the big game tonight, fans are expecting the star batter to come back to his usual form against his favourite opposition.

India will be desperate to take revenge for last year’s loss in the 20-20 world cup against Pakistan. The ‘Men In Blue’ were blown away by a superb opening spell by Shaheen Afridi who removed the dangerous trio of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. Pakistan went on to win the contest by 10 wickets, breaking the jinx of 12 consecutive losses against India in world cup matches.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to De Villiers’ statement:
