Some superstars could not make it to the main event of WrestleMania despite their victory in the Royal Rumble, but their place was handed over to a bigger superstar.

In the Royal Rumble 2006 match, Rey Mysterio entered at number two and won the Royal Rumble match by defeating 29 superstars. Rey Mysterio faced Randy Orton and Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. He was also successful in becoming the champion.
Fans were expecting Rey Mysterio in the main event, which would have been the best fit for his underdog storyline. However, their match was in the third last spot on the card.
