Prithvi Shaw, the Indian batter, often known for his classic style and aggressive gameplay, silenced the critics post scoring a triple century in the Ranji Trophy game against Assam on Day 2, January 11, Wednesday. Much to the relief of the Indian fans, Ajinkya Rahane, the veteran batter, made a comeback as he scored a valiant century to his name.
For the unversed, Shaw’s last international game came against Sri Lanka in a T20I match in 2021, July. To add more, he played his last Test against Australia at home in December 2020 and since then, the right-handed batter has been out of the international arena. It remains to be seen if the selectors would consider him for selection post his triple century, although many opined that it is highly unlikely.
One has to agree that the selectors have been overlooking him, despite the Indian batter expressing his displeasure over not getting selected over and over again. Given that there is a Border Gavaskar trophy scheduled to take place in February against the mighty Australians, it might well be a perfect setup for the batter to make an international comeback.
Prithvi Shaw dominates game against Assam
To add more, post scoring his triple hundred, the right-hander continued to dominate the game, eventually inching closer to the 350-run mark, silencing all of his haters and critics. To add more to Mumbai’s performances in the ongoing season, the team stands second in the points table in the Elite B group with two wins to their name, out of the three games that they have played so far.
Early on Day 2, Mumbai were reeling at 598/3 with Shaw making his way back for 379 and veteran Rahane at 131. Along the course of his triple century, the right-hander scored 49 boundaries and 4 maximums, close to a strike rate of 100. It remained to be seen if the Indian batter would breach the 400-run mark, given that the chances for a declaration were pretty high, going by Rahane’s captaincy records.

And that's our 4th/5th venue.
Don't know why the match played there . That pitch not for national/international level.#ASSAMvMUMBAI— Rahul (@Rahulhazarika09) January 11, 2023
Surely KL Rahul has to be dropped from the Test squad. He has an avg of 34 in tests which is the 2nd lowest for any Indian batsman who has played 45tests or more and an avg of 22 last yr
