3 reasons why Manchester United will struggle this season
Manchester United sit at 20th in the points table; their lowest in the Premier League history.
The Manchester United fiasco just keeps on getting better for the rival fans. However, it has been a painful experience for others who have followed the club since their heydays.
A shocking defeat in the first match against Brighton was thought of as a blip before United’s season finally took off. A thumping defeat against the newly promoted Brentford side however swept all the doubts about United’s calibre and took everyone face to face with the reality.
Thus, their poor form has been a worry. Not only that but they have been freefalling into uncertainty ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. After eight managerial changes United have fallen out of Champions League places and now aim for the fourth spot.
There are innumerable reasons for their misery but here we will look at three reasons why Manchester United will struggle this season.
1. Lack of world-class players

Manchester United once ruled the footballing world. They had players like Paul Scholes, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona and many others who dominate the football folklore today.
Now, they have either overpriced young players or players who are past their prime. No matter what they do, no club can win big with mediocre players. United would need to bring in a lot of quality players, something that does not seem achievable this season.
2. Last-minute signings

An embarrassing defeat has shaken up the club management and they would certainly be looking to plaster the gaps with some last-minute quality additions to the team.
The problem however is that these players would not have any time to gel with their teammates. By the time, these new players develop chemistry with their teammates, the season will be halted by the FIFA World Cup.
By the time United’s new recruits settle in, 25% of the season will be over and Manchester City would be 12-16 points ahead. United would best be looking to finish fourth and that is also highly unlikely as the other teams have gotten stronger.
3. Lack of vision

Unless and until United sort out this problem, there could be no other result but what they had against Brentford.
Manchester United has consistently made brain-dead signings like Cristiano Ronaldo who doesn’t suit their style. Erik ten Hag then signed a 5ft 9inch defender in Lisandro Martinez who cannot play against tall Premier League attackers, something that was laid bare in the Brentford game.
Meanwhile average players like Luke Shaw, Fred, Harry Maguire and many others. Problems like these need years to sort out, something that Manchester United is yet to start doing.
All these three reasons and many others mean Manchester United will continue to struggle this whole season.
