Incessant rain in Victoria has sent rivers overflowing and flooding parts of Southeast Australia. Thousands of people in Victoria and Tasmania have been told to flee their homes as a 400km wide deluge of rain has drenched the country. The Guardian reports that at least 1000 homes have been flooded as a result of heavy rain in Victoria and projects 3000 could be underwater early next week.
1974 Flood-like situation in Australia
The flood water has already exceeded the level recorded in the devastating 1974 floods; some reports have suggested. “This … is probably the most significant rain event widespread across the state this year,” said the Bureau of Meteorology’s Kevin Parkyn.

Melbourne Cricket Ground which is near the Yarra River in Richmond is in danger of being affected by the flood as well. Additionally, the weather forecast shows rain showers in Melbourne which could wash out the World Cup game between India and Pakistan as well.

The Indian team has already reached Australia and are currently playing their practice matches in Perth. Meanwhile, Pakistan have won the tri-series in New Zealand after defeating New Zealand in the final. They would now fly to Australia tomorrow for their practice matches.
