Rain has played a vital role in the matches leading up to the 20-20 World Cup 2022 finals. A few games were washed out during the Super 12 stages, which had a significant impact on the teams that advanced to the tournament’s semi-finals. Now, rain might also affect the finals between Pakistan and England.

The 20-20 World Cup final in Melbourne is expected to be rained out on Sunday. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the rain will fall between 15 and 25 millimetres. During the game, there is a 94% chance of rain.

If the match is cancelled, there is a backup date available, with Monday serving as a reserve day. Unfortunately, Monday’s weather forecast isn’t much better, with a 95% chance of rain and 5-10mm of rain expected.

Given the impending rain, which has already forced the cancellation of multiple matches in Melbourne, including the pivotal Group 1 match between England and Australia, tournament organisers are looking to bend the rules in order to extend the time allotted to complete the match.

A final requires a minimum of 10 overs per side. While the match on Sunday is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM (IST), the reserve day on Monday would begin at 9:30 PM (IST). The rule change has not yet been confirmed, but it is believed to be supported by the two finalists.

Pakistan and England reach the finals

In the meantime, Pakistan and England dominated the finals to make a spot in the finals. The Men in Green beat New Zealand by seven wickets in the first semi-finals at the Sydney Cricket Ground. On the other hand, Jos Buttler and Co. completely annihilated India to win the second semi-finals at the Adelaide Oval by 10 wickets.

Both teams have had a strong showing in the tournament and will hope to continue that in the crucial match. All the players would hope for an uninterrupted game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. There are still two days in the finals for the clouds to clear.
