The 16th season of the Indian Premier League continues to engage the audience with some amazing matches. In the very first week, teams have provided some extraordinary performances that have created a buzz among the fans. Meanwhile, a senior official of the Indian cricket board has said that the richest cricket board is thinking to organise IPL twice a year.

Considering the flow of money and viewership it offers, Indian Cricket Board’s treasure Arun Singh Dhumal made a massive claim about two IPLs in a year. Mr. Dhumal, while speaking with a media outlet, said that it is not possible to host a full-length tournament but we are looking for an alternate.

Speaking at the Idea Exchange of Indian Express Mr. Dhumal said, “Given the format of the IPL that we have, it is not possible to have another edition in the same year. We have seen the bilateral calendar for the upcoming four years and the ICC events. So that may not be possible,” he said. “But if there is any window of opportunity available for some other format or short tournament, we are looking at that”, Dhumal further added.

Arun Dhumal rebuts over injury concerns due to IPL

Further speaking about Injury concerns due to IPL and resting the players from the league, Dhumal rebuts the claims. “With ‘Virat Kohli’s example Dhumal express his opinion about the issue,” he said, “The problem in our country is that whosoever makes money, be it a company or individual, he is seen with suspicion. Virat Kohli has been playing IPL for so many years, he’s never been injured. Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami never got injured. Does it have anything to do with the IPL?”

Notably, before the start of the league Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma talked about the workload management of players in the IPL. He has said, “It’s all up to the franchises now. Franchises own them. We have given indications, some kind of borderline thing to teams, but at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchise. I doubt that will happen, though.”

Meanwhile, fans react to Arun Dhumal’s two IPL-a-year comments.
