Youngest Indian players to score double hundred for India in Tests

Making a Test debut and making an impact is not a cup of tea for everyone. A lot of players take time to excel in the longest format of the game. On the other hand, there are a few who started doing well from the word go. In this listicle, we will have a look at the three youngest players to score double hundred in Tests.

Three Indian players to score double hundred for India in Tests

1. Vinod Kambli (21y 35d and 21y 55d)

The former India player and Sachin Tendulkar’s childhood friend, Kambli scored two double hundred against different oppositions at the age of 21. In his first one of that year against England, the left-hander scored 224 runs including 23 fours. After the Three Lions scored 347 runs batting first, the home team reached 591, thanks to a double hundred from Kambli and fifties from others.

Kambli’s second double hundred of the year came in the only Test against Zimbabwe at home. The Asian side batted first and amassed 536/7 with the left-hander 227 runs including 28 fours. The home team ended up winning the game by an innings and 13 runs as the Chevrons scored 322 and 201 in both innings.

2. Sunil Gavaskar (21y 283d)

The 1983 World Cup winner made his debut in India’s tour of West Indies in which the Asian side played five Tests. In the last Test of the series with the visitors leading by 1-0, they amassed 360 all-out with Gavaskar scoring a hundred. In reply, the home side scored 526.

Thanks to Sunil Gavaskar’s double hundred, India scored 427 runs and asked the home side to chase 262 runs. In the end, the home team was tottering at 165/8 when the game was called a draw.

3. Yashasvi Jaiswal (22y 37d)

The left-hander has scored his maiden double hundred in the ongoing second Test against England in the first Test. He made his Test debut last June against the West Indies. In the ongoing game, the former India U19 player scored 209 including 19 fours and seven sixes. The team has scored 396 all-out and the visitors have reached 32/0 at Lunch.
