Mohammed Shami, who came into the Indian squad in the last minute post Jasprit Bumrah’s injury that saw the 28-year-old getting ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup, said that he kept practising despite not getting a national call-up. Filling in the void, Shami went on to play in all of the matches in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 that India have played so far.
With an economy of 6, the right-handed pacer has racked up 4 wickets in 4 matches. After an enthralling thriller against Bangladesh on November 2, Wednesday, that India won by 5 runs by the DLS method, Shami said that there are many videos out there that prove that he is never out of touch.
It’s not always easy to switch from one format to another: Shami
Taking cognizance of the fact that he is playing in the shortest format of the game after one year, Shami said that it was never easy to shit from one format to the other and added that he needed the practice to stay consistent across all three formats.
“It all depends on preparation, and the team management always tells you to get ready. As and when the team requires, you will get the call, is what we are always told. If you have seen my videos, I am never out of practice and I always continue with my training,” Shami was quoted as saying by India Today.
“It’s not always easy to switch from one format to another red and white balls. It’s about how well you are connected with the team and how well you bond with them. These are things that depends, and secondly, yes, I am playing T20Is after last World T20 and I agree that a player needs confidence and flow more than the colour of the ball. Obviously you need practice,” he added.
As things stand, the pacer would hope to carry on with the form and contribute more wickets to the country. With India inching closer to the knockouts and the chances of facing great nations like Australia, England or New Zealand pretty high, it will be crucial for India that he carries on with his form.
