Former India batter Yuvraj Singh has backed his support for Rohit Sharma ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. The Hero of India’s 2011 World Cup win described the India skipper as a good captain, emphasizing that he needs a quality team to secure victory in the major tournaments.

With the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup just two months away, all eyes will be on India skipper Rohit Sharma, who is yet to lead India to a major trophy. Yuvraj, who has seen Rohit up close, believes the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) captain does not have a strong unit like former India captain MS Dhoni.

Rohit Sharma is a good captain, but you will have to give a good team to him: Yuvraj Singh

In a recent interview, Yuvraj Singh pointed out that MS Dhoni’s success as a captain was attributed to his possession of a formidable team comprising experienced players. He stated, “Rohit Sharma is a good captain, but you will have to give a good team to him. MS Dhoni was a good captain too, but he had a good team with experienced players.”

“I think Rohit has become a very good leader because he has led Mumbai Indians in IPL for such a long time. And He is a very sensible guy under pressure. You need to give a good team to a sensible captain who is experienced as well. MS Dhoni was a good captain, but he also got a good team right?”

In 2011, India’s had the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Harbhajan Singh. All of these players have experience of participating in numerous World Cups. Injuries to players have hampered the club. The likes of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are still out with injury, but Jasprit Bumrah is likely to return against Ireland. Furthermore, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will be unable to compete in the World Cup due to injuries received in a vehicle accident last year.

The Indian Cricket team have not won any major trophy for the last 10 years and this time they have a great chance to script history, win the coveted title for the third time.
