Uganda has made history by earning a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the USA and the West Indies. For the T20 World Cup, all 20 teams are currently confirmed for the big event. Namibia becomes the second nation from Africa to qualify through the qualifiers.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, has suffered yet another setback as they were not selected for the World Cup after failing to qualify for both the ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup itself.
For Zimbabwe to have any chance of qualifying for the T20 World Cup, they had to hope for Rwanda’s win over Uganda. However, in their last encounter of the tournament, Uganda bowled out Rwanda for a mere 65 runs. Later on, with nine wickets remaining, raced down the total in only 8.1 overs to clinch their fifth victory in six.
Furthermore, Zimbabwe, captained by Sikandar Raza, is still in the game against Kenya and has amassed a massive 217 runs in 20 overs. They will not qualify regardless of whether they win this game. Their defeats to Namibia and Uganda have severely damaged their confidence.
Uganda, rated 23rd in the T20I rankings, took on every opposition with a bit of confidence. In spite of the intense rivalry, one specific occasion stood out as the high point of their competition. This involved a stunning triumph against Zimbabwe, the eleventh-ranked Test-playing country.
Uganda achieved a stunning shock on November 26, 2023, defeating Zimbabwe by a margin of five wickets. This victory was more than simply another victory for Uganda; it marked their initial T20I victory against a team with all of its members.
