Meanwhile, Pakistan is currently the host of the Asia Cup 2023 and will host the Champions Trophy. Even though only four games have been given to Pakistan, the cricket board has managed to apply the hybrid model, keeping India’s inability to travel to Pakistan. Apart from this, Pakistan will host a World Event for the first time since 1996.
At that time, they hosted an ODI World Cup alongside India and Sri Lanka with the final to be played in Lahore. In 2011, they might have hosted the World Cup alongside India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka if not for a terrorist attack on the Lankans in March 2009. This led to Apex Council taking away the co-hosting rights for the tournament. In 2025, the Green Brigade will be the defending champions as they won the tournament in 2017 before it was scrapped.
