Ahead of their Boxing Day match versus Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Iceland Cricket poked fun at the Pakistan cricket squad once more. Pakistan lost the first Test in Perth by an overwhelming 360 runs as they attempted to win their maiden Test match on Australian soil. On December 26, they will resume their search when both sides play each other. Australia will try to win the series, meanwhile Pakistan will seek to extend the three-match Test series.
Following Pakistan’s loss, Iceland Cricket poked fun at the Asian cricketing heavyweights on X, claiming that 46.5% of its people were not even alive when Pakistan won its most recent Test match in Australia.
They wrote, “We did some demographic analysis and 45.6% of our X followers were not born when Pakistan last won a Test in Australia in 1995. This will go up to 45.8% unless they win the Boxing Day Test.”
This match was originally not scheduled as part of the tour, but according to ESPNcricinfo, Pakistan requested that it be played because of worries about their players’ lack of preparation. Since this is not a first-class match, the Pakistani squad will have the chance to try out more than 11 players. It will not be exactly a four-day Test match versus the Prime Minister’s XI.
Babar Azam returns to Number 1 spot
Babar Azam has finally returned to the top spot in the Men’s ODI batter rankings. He has not played a single ODI since the last league game of the ODI World Cup 2023. This move comes as a surprise to the fans even in Pakistan. This is because his poor form has somehow resulted in him getting a rise in the ODI rankings.
The Pakistan batter was displaced by Shubman Gill after a string of poor performances during the ODI World Cup 2023. However, after having being given rest during the current 3-match ODI series his rating might have dropped. Shubman Gill might be hoping to regain his spot during the next ODI assignment of Team India.
