In a close thriller at HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala, Australia beat New Zealand by five runs. In the high-scoring game, young Kiwi batter Rachin Ravindra scored another century. He scored 116 runs off 89 balls with the help of nine fours and five sixes. However, he failed to finish the game as New Zealand fell five runs short of the target.
Despite this, Rachin equalled some unique records during his innings, becoming the fourth Kiwi batter to score two centuries in an edition of the World Cup. He also equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s unique record of scoring two World Cup centuries before the age of 26. Rachin also became the second batter to score 400 or more runs in a WC edition at the age of 23 or less. Sachin Tendulkar was the first batter to do so.
In the ongoing tournament, Rachin has scored 406 runs at an average of 81.2 and a strike rate of 107.69. He has smashed two centuries, including a 123-run knock against England at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. He has been phenomenal with the bat for the Kiwis, and in the absence of star batter Kane Williamson, he has filled up his shoes brilliantly.
The story behind Rachin Ravindra’s name
There’s a fascinating story behind Rachin Ravindra’s name. Rachin’s father, Mr. Ravindra Krishnamurthy, hails from Bangalore and used to play cricket during his college days in South India. Working as a software architect, he holds immense admiration for Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. This admiration took a special place in his heart when he named his son after them.
Actually, when Rachin was born, his father decided to blend the names of his two favourite cricketers, Sachin and Rahul. resulting in Rachin’s name is a combination of Rahul and Sachin. “RA” comes from the Indian coach, Rahul, and “CHIN” is derived from the renowned god of cricket, Sachin.
Here is how fans react to Rachin Ravindra’s batting performance:
