Team India’s top order batters look all in form as they climb up the batting rankings in ODI format

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill

In the most recent World Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, Indian opening batter Shubman Gill has secured a career-best second place, just behind Pakistan’s all-format skipper Babar Azam. Shubman Gill, who is now playing in the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2023, has amassed 154 runs, including two half-centuries, and was rewarded by moving up one spot to second in the most recent World ODI Rankings.

Babar Azam currently holds the lead with 863 rating points, followed by Gill with 759 points, and the Indian opener has reduced the difference at the top up to a mere 103 rating points. In addition to Shubman Gill, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma and superstar batter Virat Kohli saw increases in their rankings as a result of their impressive batting performance at the Asia Cup, which helped them advance to the championship game without suffering a single loss.

Kuldeep Yadav reaped rewards for excellent performances during Asia Cup 2023

In the most recent ODI batting rankings, Kohli and Sharma both moved up two positions to take eighth and ninth place, respectively. Imam-ul-Haq, another Pakistani opener, slid one rank to fifth place, while Fakhar Zaman, also an opener, plummeted three spots to tenth place. Pakistani pace bowlers Haris Rauf as well as Naseem Shah, meanwhile, earned significant advancements in the World ODI Bowling Rankings as a result of their outstanding showing in the Asia Cup 2023.

With nine wickets, Haris Rauf is tied for the most in the competition and has moved up eight ranks to position 21. Naseem Shah has picked up seven wickets and has moved up eleven spaces to position 51. Kuldeep Yadav, a left-arm wrist spinner from India who is also tied for the most wickets in the 2023 Asia Cup, reaped the rewards of his efforts by moving up five spots to the seventh position. Josh Hazlewood, an Australian speed bowler, cemented his place at the top of the ODI Bowling Rankings with a three-wicket haul during the opening game of their current series against South Africa.
