‘Ye budhape me records tod raha hai’ – Fans react as England batter Dawid Malan scores massive century against Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023

The defending Champions England lost their first game against New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Riding on star batter Dawid Malan’s century England posted a massive total of 364/9 against Bangladesh in the 7th match of the ODI World Cup 2023. Malan was well supported by opener Jonny Bairstow and former skipper Joe Root. Both smocked half centuries and led England to a comfortable position.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan opted to bowl first. His decision didn’t go well with the team, as both English openers got off to a flying start. Both Malan and Bairstow added 115 runs for the first wicket in just 17.5 overs. Bairstow, in his innings, scored 52 runs off 59 balls with the help of eight boundaries. After his departure, Malan and Root added 151 runs for the second wicket.

Root, in his innings, scored 82 runs off 68 balls with the help of eight fours and a six. On the other hand, Malan scored 140 runs off 107 balls with the help of 16 fours and five sixes. In the end, Bangladesh pacers Mehndi Hasan Miraz and Shoriful Islam made a comeback and stopped England from crossing the 400-run mark. Islam clinched three wickets while Miraz for four wickets.

Dawid Malan broke the record book with a blistering century

With his amazing batting performance, Dawid Malan creates history against Bangladesh in the 7th match of the ODI World Cup 2023. The 36-year-old batter became the oldest English player to score a century in the ODI World Cup. Furthermore, he achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the fastest batter to score six ODI centuries in just 23 innings. Moreover, his exceptional batting performance shattered the previous record for the highest individual score on the ground.

It’s worth noting that this game is very crucial for the defending champions, as they will look to defend the total to make an entry into the points table. The team lost their first game against New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After this game, England will face Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 15. On the other hand, Bangladesh will face New Zealand at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 13.
