‘Ye bhi Pakistan ko harane aa rahe hai’ – Fans react as Nepal qualifies for T20 World Cup 2024

In the first semifinals of the Asian Qualifiers, hosts Nepal faced the UAE at Mulpani Cricket Ground in Kathmandu.

Amid the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, good news has come for Nepali cricket fans. The Nepal Cricket Team has qualified for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. Nepal and Oman secured their spots in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after their triumphs in the Asia qualifiers held in Nepal.

Nepal’s decisive victory over the United Arab Emirates by eight wickets and Oman’s dominant win against Bahrain by 10 wickets paved their way to the prestigious tournament. These wins came in the semifinals, as the two finalists will participate in the upcoming tournament. This marks Nepal’s inaugural appearance in the World Cup, while Oman will be competing beyond the preliminary stage for the first time.

The upcoming tournament is set to take place in the United States of America and the West Indies. It will feature a record 20 teams, divided into five groups of four. With 18 teams already confirmed, the remaining two spots will be determined during the Africa Qualifiers scheduled from November 22 to 30 in Namibia. It’s worth noting that this will be the ninth edition of the marquee event.

Aasif Sheikh guides Nepal to a historic victory

In the first semifinals of the Asian Qualifiers, hosts Nepal faced the UAE at Mulpani Cricket Ground in Kathmandu. While batting first, UAE posted a competitive total of 134/9 in 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Vriitya Aravind scored 64 runs off 51 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes. His amazing batting display helped the UAE cross the 120-run mark, as no other batter crossed the 30-run mark.

In response, Nepal had a poor start, losing two wickets for a mere 64 runs. However, wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh and skipper Rohit Paudel added an unbeaten 71 runs for the third wicket. Sheikh, in his inning, scored an unbeaten 64 runs off 51 balls with the help of seven fours and a six. Rohit in his innings scored unbeaten 34 runs off 20 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes.
