Surprisingly, when Australian skipper Pat Cummins and his team arrived in Sydney on Wednesday morning, the airport was deserted and the only people there to greet the team that had won the 2023 ODI World Cup in India were members of the media.
Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazelwood were seen rolling their bags with their hands as they left Sydney Airport’s International Terminal at Gate B. The airport scenes were not like the way Indian Cricket Team supporters would have greeted the players.
Pat Cummins guided Team Australia to victory over Team India against all odds. His side did this in front of their own supporters at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which can hold more than a lakh people. The ODI World Cup 2023 final was won by Pat Cummins and his side in front of nearly 92,000 cheering Indian fans in Ahmedabad.
Australia triumphed against Team India, who had gone undefeated throughout the competition until they advanced to the championship round. The sixth Australian captain to win a world cup with his team is Pat Cummins. Australia is now the only country to have lifted the World Cup trophy away from home in the 21st century.
India-Australia T20I series set to begin tomorrow!
Since both of the ODI World Cup 2023 finalists will play each other during a five-match T20I series, not many members from the Australian team have come back from India. The series is scheduled to begin in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
In addition to Travis Head, who was Australia’s finals hero, other players who have returned for the bilateral series include Sean Abbott, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, and Tanveer Sangha.
Matthew Wade, the wicketkeeper batsman, will captain the Australian team. Aaron Hardie, the young all-rounder, was added to the squad when David Warner chose, for personal reasons. He has decided to return home and skip the bilateral series against India.
