After India’s 3-2 series loss to the West Indies, former India bowler Venkatesh Prasad ripped on Hardik Pandya and the T20I team, branding the captain “clueless” and claiming the system was biased.
India barely missed the first two T20Is in their five-match series by four runs as well as two wickets, respectively, but then rallied to tie the match in the following two.
In the series-deciding encounter on Sunday, the home team gave their best effort to hold the visitors to 165 runs before chasing home the mark in just 18 overs to defeat India during the five-match T20I series for the first time.
It’s important to not look for yes men and be blinded because someone is your favourite player: Venkatesh Prasad
Venkatesh Prasad emphasised the lack of team diversity in an array of tweets, alleging that the think tank is searching for “yes men” that it can surround itself with. He said, “India needs to improve their skill set,” he said. “There is a hunger & intensity deficiency & often the captain looked clueless. Bowlers cannot bat, batsmen can’t bowl. It’s important to not look for yes men and be blinded because someone is your favourite player but look at the larger good [sic].”
When asked what part the team’s captain and leadership group played towards this current series loss, Prasad retorted that as opposed to MS Dhoni, who used to mean it, and in contrast, they “misused ” the word “process.” He wrote on Twitter with the caption, “They are responsible for the debacle and need to be accountable,” he said. “Process and such words are misused now. MS meant it, guys now just use the word. There is no consistency in selection, random stuff happening too much.”
During the post-game ceremony, Hardik Pandya spoke about the “process,” highlighting the fact that his team tried some fresh approaches during the series. Additionally, he added how “losing is good sometimes” since it gives them the chance to grow.
Fans react to former team India bowler giving his opinion on Indian team captaincy following series loss against West Indies:

Exactly there is no role clarity. Some matches Hardik bowls in the PP some matches someone else bowls. If you are playing Samson at 6 then don’t play him. play a finisher in that role. Who plays 4 numbers 11s in this era? Even our 2007 team had better no 8 in Bajji.

I couldnt agree more..process word ka toh inhone theka le rakha he..& that selection part is goldust Venky..just too many random stuff..cringeworthy antics from @yuzi_chahal @hardikpandya7 @surya_14kumar like putting hands on shoulder of opposition players during live match 1/1

Things were heading in a positive direction till the time #ViratKohli was leading by example. What we see now with Rohit or any other musical chair captain is mediocre captaincy. #BCCI management is the one to be blamed.

Well said sir.!! Now the approach is they trust players perform in last IPL and stuck with them for 12 months and it get changed next year, Is this reason for lack of consistency and pressure handling.! Contd..

Y do we need 2 experiment a national side why can’t it be done at India A and B levels especially close 2 a world cup wouldn’t you just want 2 have your best players & keep the winning momentum going? These experiments will cost us the World Cup I hope we regain momentuminAsiaCup

"Trust the process" without an outcome for a set up that boasts of playing 2-3 teams that can win any competition ?. This musical chair of playing 60 – 70 players in the last 2-3 years must stop. Getting an India cap & a chance to Captain team India were never so easy. #INDvsWI

We should be ready to lose some series if we are grooming the youngsters. You don’t become strong without losing some.
There shouldn’t be excuses where ever Kohli and Rohit are playing though.— Prashanta Sinha (@PrashantaSinha) August 14, 2023
Salute to you Venky sir. You call a spade a spade. Pandya just trying to imitate Dhoni and is brushing things under the carpet. India has been a poor limited overs team for last couple of years and both captain and coach to be blamed. Sack Dravid immediately.
— Haribalaji Ramamurthy (@Harimay02) August 14, 2023
Dravid was successful as india A coach before he took over as senior team coach ! God knows what has happened to him and players ! In IPL also they were lackluster and in india games they r way below intense than Bdesh!/Zim! Cricket is nowhere in their minds I feel

@venkateshprasad Absolutely agree Sir! This T20 team b.t.w. is not a team of new players. Pandya, Gill, SKY, Kishan, Axar, Sanju, Arshdeep, Chahal, Kuldeep cannot be called a team of new players. Pathetic show!!

If by some miracle, India wins the ODI WC with Rohit, Virat & KL giving multiple match winning performances; please be ready to see all of these processes being thrown out the window and give these players direct access to 2024 T20 WC which means we will be back to square one..
