‘Ye baat WI tour ke liye bhi ki thi’ – Fans react as media reports suggest Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad to play T20I series against Ireland

Meanwhile, the selection committee, chaired by new chief selector Ajit Agarkar, is also said to have pushed the board to expand the number of India A tours

Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad

Recently, India announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series of the West Indies tour. One of the biggest talking points of the squad was the exclusion of Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad from the team. Fans were angry at the Indian Cricket Board for not selecting them despite their amazing performance in the Indian Premier League 2023.

However, a recent news report suggests that Indian Team Management is looking to send them on the Ireland tour with other players. It’s worth noting that the gap between India’s Ireland and West Indies tours is just five days. To overcome this problem, the team is trying to send a B-team to Ireland, including Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and others.

“Rinku and other players who did well in the IPL will fly to Ireland as the selection committee doesn’t want to try everyone at one stage. There are seven players of the Indian ODI team who are not going to play T20, as those players are key for us going ahead as they will be playing in the Asia Cup in late August,” the source was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

India will face Ireland in a three-match T20I series

Ahead of the Asia Cup, the Indian team will face Ireland in a three-match T20I series. The series will be played between August 18–23, 2023. With an eye on the Asian Games, junior players will be tested on the Ireland tour, while the senior team prepares for the Asia Cup. The Indian team is expected to pick a second-string squad for the Asian Games, with Shikhar Dhawan as one of the favourites to captain the side.

Meanwhile, the selection committee, chaired by new chief selector Ajit Agarkar, is also said to have pushed the board to expand the number of India A tours. A side that will allow young players a chance to shine, and the Indian cricket body is in discussions with other boards about hosting India A trips.
