Vikram Rathour who is India’s batting coach has asked for patience with under-fire Indian youngsters. Shubman Gill has been failing on a consistent basis ever since his move to the number three spot.
Speaking to the media ahead of the second Test, Rathour said “there are young batters in our team who’ve not played much Test cricket. We need to be a bit patient with them. Gill, Yashasvi and Iyer will eventually start getting big runs”
Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped after his disastrous World Test Championship final. During the first Test, the 24-year-old scored 23 runs in total prompting fans to ask for his sack.
Vikram Rathour makes a huge statement on Gill’s form
Coming to the support of star batter Shubman Gill, India’s batting coach urged for more time. During the press conference before the second Test, the veteran former India star backed the young star.
“There are young batters in our team who have not played much Test cricket. So, we need to be a bit patient with them. Batters like (Shubman) Gill, (Yashasvi) Jaiswal and (Shreyas) Iyer will eventually start getting big runs, I’m sure of it,” Rathour said
Asked about Sarfaraz Khan’s likely debut, India’s batting coach said “It will be a tough choice. What value they bring to the team, of course, is that they are superb players. We have seen how well they have done in domestic cricket in the last few years. So on these kinds of wickets, I think they can really add a lot of value to the team, If we have to pick just one out of them, of course, it would be tough. But, that decision will be made by Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma.”
Finally, India’s batting coach asked the team to play more positive cricket. “There’s a difference between playing with intent and playing attacking cricket. I want them to play with intent. If there is the opportunity to score some runs, they should take it. They need to decide by looking at the surface and conditions. So, the batters need to possess that intelligence as to which is the best or safest shot on the surface”
