In the latest rankings released by the Apex Cricket Council, India’s young talents have experienced significant advancements after a thrilling 4th Test victory against England in Ranchi. The victory not only secured the series for India with a 3-1 lead but also showcased stellar performances from emerging stars.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been consistently impressing with his batting prowess, continues his ascent in the Test rankings. Accumulating 655 runs in eight innings, including two double centuries, at an outstanding average of 93.57, Jaiswal’s remarkable series display has propelled him to the 12th position, garnering 727 rating points.
Meanwhile, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, despite contributing a half-century in the fourth Test, slipped one place to 13th with 720 points. Young batter Shubman Gill climbed four spots to 31st, and Dhruv Jurel made an impressive leap of 31 places, securing the 69th position in the rankings. Both have achieved their career-best rankings in Test cricket.
England’s Joe Root moved up two places to claim the third spot after notching his 32nd Test century in the series. With 799 rating points, Root now trails only Kane Williamson and Steve Smith.
Virat Kohli might lose his place in the Top 10!
Notably, Virat Kohli, who was absent from the series due to personal reasons, faces a potential drop in rankings. He is currently in the ninth position with 744 rating points. His absence provides an opportunity for others, with Travis Head in 11th place with 741 points and eyeing a move into the top 10.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, despite sitting out the fourth Test, retains his top spot in the Test bowler rankings. However, with a remarkable four-wicket haul in the second innings against England, Kuldeep Yadav soared 10 places to reach the 32nd position, achieving a new career-high ranking.
Looking ahead, as the Test series between Australia and New Zealand kicks off on February 29, significant changes in the rankings are anticipated. Travis Head, currently in 11th place, has a chance to break into the top 10, especially with the absence of Harry Brook and Virat Kohli. Additionally, the battle for the top batting positions between Kane Williamson and Steve Smith adds further intrigue to the evolving rankings scenario.
