WWE Backlash brings back controversial wrestling figure, hints at SummerSlam return

The WWE Backlash 2023 was the 18th event that took place of May 7, Sunday

WWE Backlash 2023

The company went all out to make WWE Backlash, a sizable event staged in Puerto Rico, special. In actuality, Brian Kendrick, a contentious wrestler, was also reintroduced for the occasion. Zelina Vega participated in a SmackDown Women’s Championship match during Backlash as WWE took advantage of the enthusiastic home crowd. Vega received some enormous pops on the night even though they lost. Additionally, Bad Bunny and Damian Priest engaged in a great street battle.

In order to assist in the match, Brian Kendrick was called back. Kendrick got into trouble after making debatable remarks regarding many conspiracies that upset wrestling supporters on social media. Even though he was slated for the AEW card, he had to be removed.

‘It was for the Bad Bunny-Damian Priest match. The company brought me in’ – Brian Kendrick

In an interview with the podcast Hitting the Turnbuckle, Kendrick affirmed that the reason the business had rehired him to assist with the Bad Bunny and Damian Priest bout was because of the rapport he had built with them during their previous tag team match at WrestleMania 37. “It was for the Bad Bunny-Damian Priest match. The company brought me in. It was because a few years ago, when they had the tag match, I worked with them. So because of the comfort level that we built, Bunny and I, they requested me to come back for that too. So yeah.” [34:29 – 34:56] He continued by saying that it was quite likely that he would be present if Bad Bunny was competing at SummerSlam. “I don’t know, and I don’t know. If he’s going to be at SummerSlam, yeah, we’re at SummerSlam.” [34:59 – 35:05]

Kendrick expressed his belief that bringing in well-known figures like Logan Paul and Bad Bunny was advantageous for the WWE. He continued by mentioning Bunny’s extensive preparation for this match at Backlash. “I know Bunny put in a lot of training.” [35:50 – 35:56] It will be interesting to see whether WWE ever invites Brian Kendrick back again.
