The Women’s 20-20 World Cup 2023 just concluded, with Australia successfully defending their title. The team led by Meg Lanning won the match against South Africa in Newlands Cape Town by a margin of just 19 runs. On the back of Beth Mooney’s batting prowess, Australia was able to set a huge score. Laura Wolvaardt gave it her all and came very close, but it wasn’t meant to be. In this listicle, we will take a look back at some of the top moments from the Women’s 20-20 World Cup 2023.

#5 Renuka Thakur’s five-wicket haul

When Renuka Thakur of India faced England in a must-win game for both sides, it eventually turned out to be the entire English batting unit versus the swing bowler. Renuka plugged a gaping hole in the English batting order on her own, taking key wickets in the top and middle orders. Here excellent swing and seam movement off the surface annoyed the English batters as they crumbled against her.

#4 Nat Sciver’s assault on Pak

Nat Sciver needed only forty deliveries to score a very valuable and unbeaten 81 runs against Pakistan, with a strike rate of 200. Sciver was a figure of poise and focus as her valiant assault on Pakistan nearly single-handedly ended the Nida Dar-led side’s campaign. Her knock helped England set a huge target of 214 runs in the innings. After that, they were successful in defending the target by a margin of 114 runs, restricting Pakistan to 99/9.

#3 Muneeba Ali’s spectacle

Pakistan finished fourth in Group 2 after a disappointing tournament, but left-handed opener Muneeba Ali produced one of the tournament’s standout innings. The 25-year-old smashed 14 fours in a masterful 102 from 68 balls as Pakistan defeated Ireland by 70 runs at Newlands. Muneeba became the first Pakistani woman to reach three figures in T20I cricket in doing so.

#2 Harmanpreet Kaur’s run-out in Semifinal

Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s captain, appeared to have everything under control. In the first semi-final against Australia, she had just hit two consecutive boundaries off Georgia Wareham to bring up her 50, and India needed another 41 runs off 33 balls. She then swept for two runs, but as she grounded her bat, it got caught in the pitch, and Alyssa Healy whipped off the bails to run Kaur out for 52. India ultimately fell five runs short.

#1 Tazmin Brits’ excellent catch to dismiss Alice Capsey

The quality of fielding has long been a topic of worry in the women’s game. There were a few dropped catches at the World Cup, but there were also some excellent grabs. Tazmin Brits’ catch to eliminate Alice Capsey in the second semifinal was one of the tournament’s best. To dismiss the dangerous Capsey, she swooped a one-handed and full-stretch catch.
