KL Rahul, who is regarded as one of the world’s most technically proficient batters, hasn’t had much luck lately. Rahul, the captain of the Indian team against Bangladesh in the two-match Test series, barely got going with the bat, scoring 57 runs in 4 innings at an average of 14.25.
Rahul’s ability to not only bat at the top of the batting order but also to lead the Indian team was questioned as the second Test against Bangladesh came to a tense conclusion with India winning and winning the series 2-0.
The batter played nine ODI games and scored 251 runs at an average of 27.9 and a strike rate of 80. In the shortest format of the game, he scored 343 runs in 16 games at an underwhelming average of 29. As for the longest format of the game, he played a total of eight games, scoring a total of 137 runs at an average of just over 17.
His admirable performance in the Indian T20 League in 2022 has increased the criticism. The star batter’s supporters think he has only tried his best for his league franchise, and not for the Indian team. Rahul scored 616 runs at an average of more than 51 for the Lucknow team in 14 games of the Indian T20 League this season.
In the coming year, the batter anticipates having more success at the plate. As for now, the 30-year-old has been the centre of all the criticism and trolling for India’s poor form in 2022. Even his place in the Indian team setup has been brought into question.
“I would give KL those couple of Test matches, but if things don’t go KL Rahul’s way… The one thing that does go against him is the fact that he has played over 40 Tests and his average is just mid-30s. That is not acceptable for an opener. That is one of the lowest among Indian players for sure, who have played 35 Test matches,” Dinesh Karthik had recently said.
