In Charlotte, former NBA player Anthony Morrow is charged with assault on a female, assault by strangulation, communicating threats, and second-degree kidnapping. Morrow was arrested on February 10 and released two days later on a $15,000 bond, according to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office arrest records.

Morrow allegedly strangled the victim, whom he was dating at the time, according to WSOC-TV Channel 9, during the domestic violence incident and was “squeezing her neck with his hands,” resulting in “scratches on the right side of her neck, a cut lip, and abrasions on her forehead.”

The ex-NBA player is also accused of striking the victim “multiple times with his fist,” according to documents obtained by WSOC-TV for his arrest warrant. The alleged domestic violence occurred at the victim’s Uptown Charlotte apartment. In a statement to the station on Friday, Morrow’s lawyer denied the allegations.

“He has faith in our justice system and has every confidence that a review of the evidence will reveal that he is not guilty,” Morrow’s lawyer told the news station.

While attending Charlotte Latin High School, the 37-year-old was named North Carolina’s “Mr. Basketball” in 2004. He went on to play college basketball at Georgia Tech before joining the NBA for nine seasons, mostly as a backup, in his stints with the Warriors, Nets, Hawks, Mavericks, Pelicans, Thunder, and Bulls. In 2010-11, he started a career-high 47 games for the Nets. Morrow had previously returned home to Charlotte after his NBA career ended, according to WSOC-TV Channel 9.
