ODI World Cup 2023

What happens if rain ruins semi-final 1 between India and New Zealand?

There are some predictions of rain during the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa.

India vs New Zealand

Reserve days will be available for the ODI World Cup 2023 final and both semifinal matches. This piece of information was announced by the apex cricket council. In the event that bad weather as well as any other reason prevents the fixtures from being finished on the scheduled days, the reserve day shall be used.

During the 2019 ODI World Cup knockout stages, the reserve day was also implemented. Rain forced the second innings of India vs. New Zealand’s semi-final match to be played on the reserve day.

On their website, the apex cricket council announced the inclusion of a reserve day. They released a statement which read, “Both semi-finals and the final can use a reserve day should a result be unable to be reached due to weather.”

The second semifinal match between South Africa and Australia is set to take place on Thursday, November 16. The game is scheduled at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. But there is an expectation of it to be rained out. During the day of the match, there is a 50% probability of precipitation, citing meteorological reports.

Only in the event that the match, cannot be played on the scheduled day, the reserve day will be activated. Finishing the game on the scheduled day will always take precedence over using the reserve day.

Considering the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as the Asia Cup Super 4s stage match between India and Pakistan taking place the day after the designated one. In both the tournaments, the reserve day became a familiar sight in 2023.

What happens if rain perishes on reserve days as well?

The side that ended higher during the league round will advance. This is if conditions on the reserve day are unplayable according to the umpires. This result becomes applicable when it prevent teams from playing the minimum number of overs needed for a result.

Especially compared to their opponents, New Zealand as well as Australia, India and South Africa are ranked higher going into the corresponding semi-final matches. With little to no risk of rain expected, the outlook on Sunday, the ODI World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad, seems excellent.
