On a sticky Ahmedabad wicket, England elected to bowl first, and Australia, for once, lost the openers for very little. Adil Rashid defeated Steve Smith despite his strong batting and the potential for a large score. Rashid also grabbed Josh Inglis.
Marnus Labuschagne then assumed command of the Australian innings. However, when he attempted to advance, speedster Mark Wood caught him again. Despite picking up a few body blows and scoring a few runs, Cameron Green was caught for 47.
Marcus Stoinis lost to Liam Livingstone after going for it a bit too soon. Zampa scored crucial runs towards the finish, as Australia scored 286. Chris Woakes was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up a crucial four-fer. It is a similar total that was chased with ease by New Zealand in the opening game of the ODI World Cup 2023.
Australia continue winning run as they edge out defending champions
England lost Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root as their first two wickets. Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan provided some stability with their partnership, but they lost two wickets in a row once again. Another partnership followed, but soon after, fast wickets utterly ruined the pursuit. Although Woakes, Rashid, and David Willey gave it their best shot, they were never going to be able to cross the finish line.
Adam Zampa had a tremendous night, taking three wickets for twenty-one runs. In addition, he finished the day with a remarkable catch and a useful 29 runs at bat. In the end, Australia won the game comfortably by a margin of 33 runs.
With two games remaining against Afghanistan and Bangladesh, Australia will be hoping to secure a semifinal berth. With ten points at this stage, they are ahead of New Zealand in the standings. Though they are now ranked tenth in the league, England still has two games remaining. They need these two wins in order to secure a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Sad thing in this WC has been the performance of Jonny Bairstow. He did not play WC 2022 and was ready to perform in India but sadly he has not been upto expectations. Although a really talented batter but struggling to get team a good start from top
