Sanju Samson has become one of the most loved cricketers in India. He has gained a massive fan following in recent times. The star cricketer, however, is struggling to seal his place in the Indian team, despite some good performances in recent times.
The same is the case in the ongoing New Zealand series as well. Samson was named to the squad for the T20I and ODI matches, but he did not play in the T20I leg. He was selected to play in the first One-Day International (ODI) at Eden Park in Auckland, where he excelled.
He was, however, dropped from the starting lineup for the next game at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Deepak Hooda, an all-rounder, was chosen ahead of Samson for the game. The Indian team’s management has now come under fire for not believing in Samson’s abilities.
Meanwhile, Sanju Samson was seen helping the ground staff put the covers on the field during a rain interruption during the second ODI against New Zealand. A video of the same has been doing rounds on the internet.

As for the game, the Kiwis won the toss and chose to bat first. Captain Shikhar Dhawan and his opening partner Shubman Gill got Team India off to a good start, scoring 22 runs in 4.5 overs before the game was interrupted due to rain.
The proceedings were resumed after a while and the game was reduced to 29-overs a side. India quickly lost Dhawan (three in 10) after the resumption, but Suryakumar Yadav held the mantle for the Men in Blue. He scored quickfire 34 runs in 25 balls, while Gill scored 45 runs in 42 balls. The game was once again interrupted after 12.5 at a score of 89/1. The game was eventually called off after a long wait.
The Men in Blue needed to win this game because a loss would mean the series was over. The brilliance of Kane Williamson and Tom Latham helped the Blackcaps win the first game of the three-match series. India will now look to win the final match and level the series.
