WATCH: Pakistan’s heart-warming gesture towards David Warner during the opener’s final ever Test match

Pakistan were lucky to reach 313 in the first innings after a disastrous start to the first day’s play.

David Warner

While on tour in Australia, the Pakistan cricket team made yet another kind gesture. On the first day of play in the New Year’s Test, Shan Masood along with his team presented David Warner with a guard of honour.

At the close of the day’s play in the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), this occurred when the Australian opener stepped out to bat. Even though the entire crowd at the home ground was standing to cheer for the hometown hero, Warner was overwhelmed as he took to the crease.

The cricket team from Pakistan arrived at the location well in advance of David Warner and Usman Khawaja, who presented the former with a guard of honour. Before he batted for the first time in his illustrious Test career, Warner spent his time and watched the sky.

Another touching moment occurred when David Warner and Usman Khawaja gave one other a big embrace before both batters took the pitch. On Day 1 in the New Year’s Test, Warner and Khawaja, are best of friends ageing back to age-group cricket. They both only made it through one over prior to Stumps being called.

Shan Masood chose to bat first at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Despite a lacklustre performance from their top order, Pakistan scored 313 runs earlier in the day. Aamer Jamal and Mohammad Rizwan starred well with the bat as they scored 82 and 88 respectively.

Spotlight on David Warner as he bats at SCG

In case anyone missed it, David Warner started his penultimate Test innings after hitting a huge boundary on Day 1. With just one over remaining in the first day of play, Pakistan chose to start the bowling sequence with off-spinner Sajid Khan.

David Warner would be hoping to win his last ever Test match at his home ground in Sydney. Warner earlier in the series against Pakistan produced a game-winning century in Perth, He also announced his retirement from the ODI format during a press conference in Sydney on New Year’s Day.
