The Bangladeshi batter will have one more chance to make an impression in the series. He would be desperate to have some runs under his belt. After winning the ODI series, Bangladesh suffered a 188-run defeat at the hands of India in the first Test match.

Riding on sensational knocks from Cheteshwar Pujara (90 off 203) and Shreyas Iyer (86 off 192), India notched a huge score of 404 runs in the first innings. Bangladesh, in reply, were bundled out for a paltry score of 150 runs.

Kuldeep Yadav produced an outstanding performance with the ball as he claimed five wickets for 40 runs in 16 overs. India had the chance to enforce the follow-on but they opted against that.

KL Rahul and Co. came out to bat again and scored 258 runs for the loss of two wickets. Shubman Gill notched his maiden century in Test series as played a brilliant knock of 110 off 152 balls. Cheteshwar Pujara also broke his century drought as he raised his 19th century in Test cricket. Bangladesh were bowled out for 324 runs in their second innings, thereby India a 1-0 lead.

The second and final Test match is scheduled to be played from 22nd to 26th December 2022 at Shere Bangla National Stadium.
