WATCH: Mushfiqur Rahim makes history as he becomes first Bangladesh player to be dismissed for obstructing the ball
Mushfiqur Rahim has entered into the record books in an unwanted manner.
Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed unusually in the second Test match against New Zealand. The wicket-keeper batsman, who was dismissed for grabbing the ball in an over from Kyle Jamieson. He was observed using his hands when standing around the stumps. Rahim was sent back in this manner, making him the first Bangladeshi player to do so in history. He became one of the few cricket players to be removed in this fashion. He has joined in the footsteps of Mohinder Amarnath, Mohsin Khan, Michael Vaughan, and others.
In international cricket, only a few players have been sent back from the game for touching the ball. Rahim was the eleventh player to be sent straight to the changing room for obstructing the field whereas a delivery was still alive.
Before Rahim went back to the pavilion he was able to notch up 35 runs off 83 balls. It’s interesting to note that he nearly handled the ball in the opening over during the second session. The timing of his wicket happened against Bangladesh, when Rahim and Shahadat Hossain had established a reliable stand.
After choosing to bat first previously in the day, Bangladesh found themselves struggling at 104/5. This was after the 57-run partnership ended against their circumstances. Now, they will be believing in the remaining player to put up a big score on the board.

Not out Handled the ball:Notwithstanding (a) above, a batsman will not be out under this Law if he handles the ball to avoid injury.
Out Handled the ball:(a) Either batsman is out Handled the ball if he wilfully touches the ball while in play with a hand or hands not holding the bat unless he does so with the consent of a fielder. (b) Either batsman is out under this Law if, while the ball is in play, and without the consent of a fielder, he uses his hand or hands not holding the bat to return the ball to any fielder.
