WATCH: Massive hoarding fell off the Ekana stadium roof lands dangerously on spectators during Australia vs Sri Lanka game

Star Australia batters Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell also witnessed the incident and were left in shock.

Australia vs Sri Lanka

In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, rain interrupted the game for the first time on Monday. In the match between Australia and Sri Lanka, the passing showers stopped the play for a brief period of time. However, during that, the situation turned windy in Lucknow, and it was looking like a small thunderstorm.

The situation worsened when a big hoarding placed on the roof of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana stadium fell down on spectators. Due to the heavy wind speed, a hoarding fell down while spectators were seen running away to safeguard themselves. The whole incident was captured on camera, and the video went viral on social media. Netizens are fuming over the mismanagement of the stadium authorities.

Here is the video:

It happened during the 43rd over of the first inning. Star Australia batters Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell also witnessed the incident and were left in shock. However, with God’s grace, none of the spectators were injured, and things calmed down soon. Despite that, fans are demanding the Indian Cricket Board and Apex Cricket Council look into the matter of safety.

Sri Lanka failed to convert a good start into a result

Sri Lanka commenced the match strongly as openers Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka notched up impressive half-centuries, setting up a solid 125-run partnership. However, Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, broke the momentum with a crucial dismissal of Nissanka in the 22nd over. Subsequently, Adam Zampa‘s stellar performance led to a remarkable four-wicket haul, marking his 10th such achievement in ODIs, second only to the legendary Shane Warne among Australians.

In the end, Despite Charith Asalanka’s determined 39-ball 25, the Sri Lankan batting lineup struggled, with none of the other batters managing to surpass the 10-run mark. Ultimately, Sri Lanka concluded their innings at 209 in 43.3 overs. However, this target didn’t prove fighting for the Aussies, as they comfortably chased it down to register their first win in the ongoing tournament.
