KL Rahul, India’s stand-in wicketkeeper who made a costly error in the previous match, completed a sensational catch in the ongoing second One-Day International against Bangladesh in Dhaka. Rahul dove to his right and completed a one-handed stunner to put an end to Mahmudullah’s stay in the middle. Umran Malik‘s bowling claimed him after he had scored 77 runs.

Umran bowled a length ball at a good pace in the first delivery of the 47th over, and the wicket fell. Mahmudullah pursued it with good intent but gained an edge, which was then collected by Rahul, who had to jump to his right.

It was Malik’s second wicket of the game, and he had given up 58 runs in his 10-over quota. In the meantime, Bangladesh, who chose to bat after winning the toss, amassed a formidable 271/7 total in the first innings.

The hosts got off to a bad start, falling to 69/6 in 19 overs. However, a strong batting performance by Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan helped Bangladesh escape from a difficult situation. The pair combined for 148 runs, the highest seventh-wicket stand by any team against India in ODIs.

Mahmudullah’s stay lasted 96 balls and hit seven fours. Hasan, on the other hand, finished unbeaten as he reached his century off the final delivery of Bangladesh’s innings. Hasan took 83 deliveries to reach the triple digits, with eight 4s and four 6s. Two of his four sixes came in the final over bowled by Shardul Thakur.

Hasan had won the previous match at the same venue for Bangladesh, despite Shakib Al Hasan and Ebadot Hossain creating havoc in the Indian lineup. Hasan then helped Bangladesh recover from 136/9 in 39.3 overs to complete the 187-run chase in 46 overs. His late blitz resulted in an unbeaten 38 off 29 balls. However, India would have won had KL Rahul not dropped a simple catch of Hasan in the match, which he survived twice in the same over.
