The Adelaide Strikers team had no clue what hit them on Monday. Josh Brown scored 140 runs from just 57 balls during the challenger game of the Big Bash League 2023. The winner of this game will face Sydney Sixers in the final game of the season.

It was a great inning considering the next highest for Brisbane Heat was 33 by Nathan McSweeney. None of the other batters could reach double figures as Josh Brown dominated with the bat.

Earlier in the day it was Nathan McSweeney who won the toss and chose to bat first. In the first qualifier, Brisbane had lost to Sydney at the same venue. On that day, Brisbane had bowled first and lost the game. Adelaide Strikers on the other hand had beaten defending champions Perth Scorchers to make it to the Challenger game.

It was all Brisbane Heat in the challenger game as Josh Brown scored an imposing 140 with the bat. The 30-year-old batter impressed everyone with his stroke play and powerful shots during his mammoth knock.

Charlie Wakim was out early when he was out for 7 LBW to David Payne. That was the only early joy for the Adelaide Strikers bowlers. Skipper Nathan McSweeney and Josh Brown then added 119 runs for the second wicket.

It was the veteran Josh Brown who took a liking to the Adelaide bowling unit. Spinners Cameron Boyce and Lloyd Pope were hit for 89 runs from their 8 overs for four wickets. The moment of the game arrived in the 14th over bowled by Cameron Boyce.

With a six over the long-off region, Josh Brown got the second-fastest century in Big Bash League history. That knock helped Brisbane Heat score 214/7 from their 20 overs at the halfway stage. Adelaide could not match the exploits as they struggled with the bat while chasing 215 runs to win. Matthew Short was out for 19, while D’Arcy Short was out for 7 to leave Adelaide in early trouble.

Spencer Johnson picked both the openers and also the number three batter for Jake Weatherald. Only Harry Nielsen put up a fight as Brisbane won the game and booked a spot in the final.
