South Africa created history on Sunday as they chased down the biggest total in ODI history against England. The hosts chased down the target of 343 runs, surpassing their own best of 338 against Australia. However, things were not all easy for the Proteas.
England captain Jos Buttler and South Africa‘s star batsman Rassie van der Dussen exchanged heated words during the second One-Day International (ODI) on January 29 in Bloemfontein. After winning the previous ODI, the Proteas were eager to win the series against the Three Lions.
Their heated exchange was captured on the stump mics, and a video of the incident went viral on social media. Normally, the England captain does not lose his cool and remains composed, but he was visibly frustrated after Rassie blocked him from taking a catch. The England captain hit back at the South African batsman, and was heard asking, ‘What’s your problem, Rassie?’

Temba Bavuma’s men sealed the series with another clinical win after the Proteas star smashed a century in the previous ODI, helping the home team take a 1-0 lead. The home team now sealed the series 2-0 with one match yet to be played.
The hosts won the toss and chose to bowl first. With England skipper Buttler scoring 94 runs unbeaten, and Harry Brook contributing 80 runs, the team was onto setting a big total. Moeen Ali also hit a half-century to help the visitors post a respectable total of 342/7 in their allotted 50 overs.
In the chase, the skipper scored a century, while David Miller continued his hot streak with another half-century in back-to-back games. They worked together to help South Africa reach the required total of 343 runs. Bavuma won the Player of the Match award for his match-winning 109-run knock in 102 balls as the Proteas chased the target down with five balls to spare.
