WATCH: Imran Tahir’s magical spell helps Guyana Amazon Warriors qualify for CPL 2023 final  

Imran Tahir led his side to the Caribbean Premier League final for a match against Trinbago Knight Riders to be played on Sunday.

Guyana Amazon Warrior swept aside Jamaica Tallawahs in a one-sided battle. Imran Tahir led his team to a massive win by 81 runs. By virtue of this massive win, Guyana will now play the Caribbean Premier League final. Their opponents will be the Kieron Pollard-led Trinbago Knight Riders.

The second qualifier on Saturday was played at Providence Stadium in Guyana. The jam-packed arena was fully behind their team led by Imran Tahir. Brandon King , the Jamaica skipper won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Mohammad Amir who had got injured in the run-up to the playoffs was back for Jamaica. Guyana also made one change to their team. Wicket-keeper Shamar Joseph made way for Ronsford Beaton.

Imran Tahir’s master class with the ball has Jamaica in a spin 

44-year-old Pakistan-born former South African spinner, Imran Tahir is having a memorable CPL 2023 season. The leg-spinner bowled 2.2 overs while taking 3 wickets for just 7 runs.

Imran Tahir first got the wicket of Steven Taylor caught by Beaton for four. This was followed by the wicket of Shamar Springer for 1. The final wicket of night was that of Nicholson Gordon who was out bowled for a duck. Imran Tahir ran arms wide with delight as Guyana won the game and moved into the final.

Put into bat, Guyana had scored 182 from their 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Azam Khan top-scored with 54 runs off 27 balls. The burly wicket-keeper hit 5 fours and 4 sixes in his knock. Shai Hope contributed with 40 runs as Shimron Hetmyer scored 31 runs. Shamar Springer and Nicholson Gordon picked 2 wickets each for Jamaica.

Chasing 183 to win, the Jamaicans were never in the game. Just three batters managed to reach double figures. Imad Wasim was the top scorer with 43 runs off 33 balls with 5 fours and a six. Alex Hales with 15 and Fabien Allen were the other batters to post double-digit scores.

Imran Tahir with 3/7 was the best bowler of the night. He was supported well by his former South African colleague Dwaine Pretorius who managed to take 2 wickets. Guyana and Imran Tahir will now play Trinbago in the final on Sunday in front of their home fans.
