WATCH: Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Devine engage in verbal spat during WBBL game

Harmanpreet Kaur scored resilient 52 runs along with a rapid 44 runs from Georgia Wareham helped Renegades to 171 runs batting first

Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Devine

Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Devine, prominent cricket figures and captains in international cricket, were involved in a heated incident during a Women’s Big Bash League 2023 (WBBL) match on November 3. Harmanpreet, playing for Melbourne Renegades, scored a remarkable fifty, but Sophie Devine’s Perth Scorchers secured a comfortable home victory.

The incident unfolded when Harmanpreet was on 43* runs, facing Devine in the 16th over. Harmanpreet was getting ready for the last delivery of the over and didn’t look up as Devine approached to bowl. Harmanpreet looked up late, and the ball was already delivered. Beth Mooney cleanly collected the ball behind the stumps, but Harmanpreet expressed her displeasure with Devine’s delivery and reacted angrily. She raised her left hand, seeking an explanation from Devine and the umpires for the ‘early delivery.’ In response, Devine defended her actions.

The game briefly paused as the umpires declared the previous delivery invalid and requested Devine to bowl again. Devine, although displeased, ensured she sought Harmanpreet’s readiness for the next delivery by signalling with a thumbs-up.

Harmanpreet Kaur scares me a little bit: Beth Mooney

mid all the discussion the commentators had a chat with the wicketkeeper of the Scorchers team, Beth Mooney who said that the feud was unclear to her. The star Australian batter also said that both are having some verbal discussions on the issue. In addition, she also said that he is kind of afraid of the India team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

“There’s a bit of argy-bargy going on between Harmanpreet and Sophie, and I’m not sure who would win that battle because Harmanpreet scares me a little bit,” Mooney told.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s resilient innings of 52 not out from 49 balls, along with a rapid 44 runs contributed by Georgia Wareham, propelled the Renegades to a total of 171 runs after they batted first. This marked Harmanpreet’s first half-century in the WBBL 2023, as she had been grappling with inconsistency, accumulating 158 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 108.21. The Melbourne Renegades find themselves in a challenging seventh place with just one victory in six matches this season.
