WATCH: Former New Zealand Test team skipper Kane Williamson gets unfairly run-out during first Test against Australia

For the first time in his 12 year long career, Kane Williamson has been run-out in Test Cricket.

At the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Day 2 of the first Test match between Australia and New Zealand, star batter Kane Williamson was run out horribly. Williamson attempted to smash the ball towards mid-off in an attempt to take a single. But instead he collided with Will Young, who was approaching from the non-striker’s end.

The innings’ fifth over saw the dismissal of the veteran batter. Young clashed into the former Test captain because he was staring at the ball rather than his partner. Seizing the chance, Marnus Labuschagne struck straight, seeing Williamson shy of his crease.

Considering Williamson’s performance against South Africa in the previous series, his wicket turned out to be a major turning point for Australia. Against the Proteas, the right-handed batter hit three hundreds in four innings, leading New Zealand to an unprecedented series victory.

New Zealand surrender massive 205-run lead to Australia

In the meantime, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green carried on from Day 1 of the first Test. With the aid of 23 fours as well as five sixes, the 24-year-old started Day 2 on 103 and contributed 71 runs more to his team’s total before finishing undefeated at 174.

Green and Josh Hazlewood put up 116 runs for the final wicket to take the visiting team to 383. On the opening day, Australia was put to bat first by Kiwi captain Tim Southee, and the visiting openers put up a 61-run stand before falling short at 89-4. In the last period of the day, all contributed to Australia’s 279-9 total, which saw Green earn his second Test century.

On Day 2, New Zealand found itself on the verge of collapse at 42–5 against Australia. Fighting knocks from Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry ensured some sort of respite for New Zealand. Even after that, they got bundled over at 179, which was 205 runs short of the visitor’s total. Australia currently are the Trans-Tasman Trophy holders. They also won the T20I series 3-0 last week . Also, since 2011, the Kiwis have not won a single Test match against the mighty Australians.
