Watch: Fans support Bangalore during Mumbai vs Delhi game

Bangalore have qualified for the playoffs on the virtue of Mumbai’s win against Delhi

The 69th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 between Mumbai and Delhi saw the fans cheering for Bangalore. For the unversed, the three-time finalists needed Mumbai to beat Delhi for them to qualify for the playoffs. The Faf du Plessis-led side had 16 points after playing all of their league games. However, their negative Net Run Rate (NRR) meant that the team wasn’t assured of the playoffs spot.

On the other hand, Delhi had 14 points in their bag with one game remaining for them. They only needed to beat Mumbai to qualify for the playoffs as they had a positive NRR. Meanwhile, during the second innings of the game, the fans were seen cheering for the Bangalore-based franchise. The video of the same has gone viral on the internet.

Talking about the game, the five-time winners were aiming to end their campaign with a win in front of the Wankhede crowd. They won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Rishabh Pant-led side scored 159/7 at the end of their innings. In reply, the Rohit Sharma-led side won the game by five wickets, and chased their target with five balls to spare.

  1. With this loss, Delhi have unfortunately finished fifth on the points table. On the other hand, Bangalore, who didn’t have their fate in their own hand before the game, now have to opportunity to lay their hands on the ever-elusive title. They are set to face Lucknow in the Eliminator game to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 25. The winner of this game will face the loser of the Qualifier 1, either Rajasthan or Gujarat, depending on the result of the game.

Meanwhile, this is the second time since 2011 that Bangalore have made it to the playoffs for the third consecutive season. In the seasons 2009, 2010, and 2011, they qualified for the finals in 2009 and 2011 and lost the semis in 2010. Thus, the Bangalore fans would be hoping that their side goes on to win their maiden title.
