The Ashes 2023

WATCH: English fans troll Steve Smith with chants of ‘We saw you cry on telly’

It’s worth noting that Australia is looking to win their first-ever Ashes series in England since 2001.

Steve Smith

Australia squared off against England in the first Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. During the 4th day of the game, former Australia skipper Steve Smith was teased by English fans as they chanted “We see you cry on telly”. Notably, back in 2018, when Smith was banned after Sandpaper Gate, he broke down during a press conference.

Remembering the incident, English fans teased Smith and chanted the slogans. However, Smith’s reaction was priceless as kept calm and just smiled back at fans. England cricketer Ollie Robinson also smiled as he heard the chants. Notably, in 2018, Smith along with David Warner, was banned after they were caught using sandpaper to tamper with the bowl against South Africa.

On Day 4, Australia appeared to be in a promising position when they knocked out England for 273 in the second innings, setting a target of 281 runs to win the match. But, late in the day, experienced English bowler Stuart Broad struck twice to put his team back in the game. While Ollie Robinson got the first blood by dismissing David Warner, Broad got rid of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith before stumps on the fourth day.

Will Usman Khawaja clinch it for Australia?

On Day 5 of the first Test, Australia will need 174 runs to win the game while England will look for seven wickets to get a lead in the series. It’s worth noting that star Australia batter Usman Khawaja is still in the middle and he will be the biggest threat for England on the final day of the game. He will be accompanied by night watchman Scott Boland.

They have added 18 runs off 27 balls for the fourth wicket. It’s worth noting that Australia is looking to win their first-ever Ashes series in England since 2001. Meanwhile, England is trying to take revenge for their last Ashes series. In the last Ashes series, Australia thrashed England by 4-0.
