WATCH: Australian opener Will Pucovski suffers brutal blow to head during Sheffield Shield clash

This was the 13th time, Will Pucovski suffered a concussion on his head.

Will Pucovski, a cricketer from Victoria, had to leave the Sheffield Shield game versus Tasmania in Hobart due to injuries sustained to his helmet. He was hit while facing Riley Meredith, and he fell to the pitch. The 26-year-old was receiving medical attention because he was in difficulty.

Despite getting back on his feet, Pucovski was unable to continue and had to be replaced with Peter Handscomb. Campbell Kellaway was substituted into the starting lineup by Victoria for the remainder of the game due to a concussion. Cricket Victoria spoke to Fox Sport in a statement as it said, “Will is being treated by our medical staff.”

Pucovski recently achieved his first-ever first-class century in more than three years at the Sydney Cricket Ground, against New South Wales. Additionally, he secured his first county contract with Leicestershire.

A total of 13 concussions have been sustained by Pucovski over his career. In 2018–19, he took a hiatus from cricket to address mental health concerns. Pucovski missed a lot of time in the 2021/22 season because of concussions.

Considered by many to be one of the best prospects on the Australian circuit, Pucovski has had concussions while playing on the pitch from the beginning of his career. The Victorian had been knocked out three times prior to making his First-Class debut. 

Moreover, Pucovski was struck in the head during his FC debut in February 2017. In October 2017, he had four further concussions of various severity before making his debut in Tests in 2021. In 2021, he played his first international match against India. Before suffering a shoulder injury that interrupted his series, Pucovski accumulated 61 runs during the first inning.

October 2023 marked his comeback to cricket this summer, and he has since played in seven games. The opener had suffered another concussion in January following a helmet-impact during an XI match in Adelaide. Later on, he was declared ineligible for a Sheffield Shield match against South Australia.
