In the 14th match of the ODI World Cup 2023, Australia beat Sri Lanka by five wickets to register their first win in the ongoing tournament. After some early hiccups, the Aussies made a brilliant comeback with the ball and restricted Sri Lanka to a below-par total of 209/10. After that, half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis helped the five-time champions win the game.

However, a video from the match is going viral on social media. In the video, an Australian fan could be seen chanting ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ along with Indian fans while his team was striving for victory. The video quickly went viral on social media, delighting netizens with the display of strong Aussie devotion.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that with this victory, Australia finally announced their arrival in the ongoing tournament. They did not have an ideal start to the tournament as they lost their first game against India. In the second game against South Africa, a 134-run thrashing left them sitting at the bottom of the points table However, this win will increase their confidence.

Sri Lanka fail to hold nerves against Australian spinners

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis opted to bat first. His decision went well with the team, as opener Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka added 125 runs for the first wicket. However, Australia skipper Pat Cummins clinched two back-to-back wickets and left the Sri Lankans in shock. After that, Sri Lankan batters failed to step up and secure their wickets, eventually getting bowled out for a mere 209/10.

In response, Australia didn’t have an ideal start. They lost openers David Warner and Steve Smith in the same over for just 24 runs. However, Mitchell Marsh (52), Marnus Labuschagne (40), Josh Inglis (58), Glenn Maxwell (31) and Marcus Stoinis (20) helped Australia propel to victory. In their next game, Australia will face Pakistan, while Sri Lanka will face the Netherlands.
