It’s a well-known fact that there’s no love lost between Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni. Recently, Dhoni relaunched a biscuit brand by forming a connection with India’s 2011 World Cup victory. In the advertisement, the former Indian captain said that since the biscuit brand was launched in 2011, India ended up winning the world cup in the same year.
Now Gautam Gambhir has jumped onto the bandwagon and featured in an advert for the same brand forming another connection with India’s 2011 World Cup win.
In the video, Gambhir can be seen watching the Bollywood movie ‘Shaheed’ as he goes on to say,
“You must be wondering what I’m doing. I’m re-watching the movie Shaheed to help India win the World Cup. I watched this movie around 11 times during our successful 2011 World Cup campaign and we ended up winning the cup.”
“I’m watching it again to bring back 2011. You can also help India win the cup by doing the same activities you did in 2011,” he added.

Earlier, Dhoni was massively trolled for his advertisement as the fans lashed out at the ‘Captain-cool’, accusing him of undermining the efforts of the players in the World Cup squad.
In the final of the 2011 World Cup played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, both Dhoni and Gambhir guided India to a six-wicket win in a high-pressure game. Gambhir scored a magnificent 97 off 122 balls while Dhoni remained unbeaten on 91 off 79 balls. The Indian captain was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for taking his team home.
Over the years, Gambhir has expressed his disappointment on not getting enough credit for the World Cup win. He even changed his social media cover image on Dhoni’s birthday in 2021 and added a picture of his knock in the finals.
Notably, the opener was also the highest run-scorer in India’s 2007 20-20 World Cup victory and top scored in the final with a scintillating knock of 75 off 54 balls.
Meanwhile, team India led by Rohit Sharma will be heading into this year’s 20-20 World Cup with their opening game against Pakistan on October 23. India have failed to clinch the coveted trophy since winning the inaugural edition in 2007.
