Umran Malik's father speaks his heart out after his son makes India debut in ODIs

Umran Malik, India’s only pacer to clock 150 Km/ph at the moment, made his ODI debut in the clash against New Zealand on November 25, Friday and it turned out to be a great outing for the pace bowler who managed to pick 2 scalps for the Men in Blue, although India went on to lose the match despite scoring 306 runs in the first innings.

As things stand, Malik’s father Abdul Rashid, opened up on his son making his international debut and said that it was good for the upcoming pacer to miss out on the 20-20 World Cup 2022 as he is still in the learning phase. Notably, the right-arm pacer has been receiving criticism for failing to come up with the right lengths, although keeping his pace alive.

The pacer’s father added that he was happy with his son’s ODI debut and added that his son need not necessarily hurry to make it to the playing XI, given that he has age under his belt and shares room with experienced players.

We think it is great that he didn’t make it: Abdul Rashid

Further, Rashid expressed his happiness on his son’s outing and was also delighted about Sanju Samson getting a game under his belt, after all the chaos. For the unversed, the talented batter was rested for the entire T20I series against the Black Caps which India won 0-1.

“People were saying that he couldn’t get selected for the World Cup. We think it is great that he didn’t make it. Things happen when they are meant to. You don’t need to rush behind anything. The kid is in the learning phase. He shares the dressing room with the experienced ones. He’ll go there and learn from them. You need not hurry. The big players who are already there, they are doing pretty well while others get the opportunity after being noticed,” Rashid was quoted as saying.

“It was important for him (Umran Malik) to play the ODIs and he made a decent debut. The almighty backed him so did the entire nation. People were talking about getting Umran and Sanju Samson in the team. It happened today and we felt great. Our kid is playing for the country. What else could we ask for? The entire world is watching him. It was his debut and we are happy for him. India should’ve won the game but no worries, we will win the next one,” he added.
